Kehewin Native Dance Theatre was founded in 1991 by Melvin John (Plains Cree Nation) and Rosa John (Ciboney Taino Nation). For over thirty years, Kehewin has developed an international reputation for their inspiring Native Theatre, Dance and Storytelling.  The organization delivers community workshops, interactive performances and classroom visits, touring shows nationally and internationally for audiences of all ages.  They have toured throughout the world, performing in Switzerland, New Zealand, Germany, Italy, France, Mexico, Ecuador, the U.S., Canada and Australia.

Every Summer Kehewin provides theatre and dance training for Native youth during the Summer Training Program in the Kehewin studios on the Kehewin First Nation.  They also provide Native Studies, Craft, Dance and Theatre workshops to interested communities and schools. Training has become an integral part of Kehewin annual operations.  Kehewin has developed its own training process, which they have named NAH (meaning ‘here’ or ’take this’ in several Native languages).  This process is community oriented and culturally based.  Rosa and Melvin John have also developed a community workshop manual that is now used throughout Canada. Kehewin Native Dance Theatre also provides resource materials about community theatre and Native Studies.
