National Gathering/Forum Cancellation
It is with great sadness that we must announce the cancellation of our national gathering, scheduled to take place in Toronto from May 31 to June 3, 2024.
We have learned that a considerable portion of the funding for this event has been denied, preventing us from proceeding as planned.
The possibility of presenting a smaller version of the event was explored. After careful consideration, we collectively concluded that, without this crucial funding, we would be unable to guarantee adequate working conditions and fair participation. Moving forward in these circumstances runs counter to CNMN’s values and mandate.
The entire CNMN team apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this situation. Stay tuned as we look forward to seeing you again soon for more exciting activities related to sound creation.

To ensure a sustainable event for all involved — CNMN has postponed the dates of its next national gathering, which will take place in Tkaronto/Toronto. The event will now take place between Friday, May 31 and Monday, June 3, 2023. The Sustainable Futures National Gathering follows in the footsteps of CNMN’s Forums, and marks our 15th national event.
Sustainable Futures aims to reflect collectively on what lies ahead for creative music and sound creators, and presenters and supporters. Together we explore how to respond to the climate emergency and foster resilience in the face of increasing economic instability and precarity. The National Gathering follows up on CNMN’s Sustainable Futures Regional Meetings, digging deeper into the questions , concerns, knowledge and vision that participants have shared. The two Sustainable Futures themes are Ecology & Economy. Both have their roots in the Greek work oikos (home/earth/dwelling). What does it mean to cultivate good housekeeping, relationships and stewardship in the creative music and sound sector?
The Gathering offers participants three and a half days of presentations, panel and group discussions, workshops, improvisation sessions and concerts.
Featured presenters include Tanya Kalmanovitch, Casey Koyczan, Rory McLeod & Paolo Griffin (Xenia Concerts), jake moore and the Participatory Creative Music Hub. The full list of activities will be announced mid-March. At that time, we will also announce the Sustainable Futures Gathering Participation Support fund and how to apply for those interested in coming to experience this event.
