Creativity, imagination and audacity are the keys to the future of classical music, and what better way to explore bold new musical ideas than by discovering the work of some of Canada’s most talented composers and performers?  Canadian New Music at IAMA showcases 9 extraordinary soloists and ensembles, performing music by a range of composers from across the country, from across the stylistic spectrum, and most of the concerts are just across the street from the Maison symphonique!

Cocktail & Open House at the CMC Quebec

  • 3:00 pm to 4:30 pm at Espace Kendergi – 1085, Côte du Beaver Hall, suite 200 (Metro station Square Victoria or McGill). The Canadian Music Centre in Quebec invites you to visit its promotion and documentation centre. The president of IAMA MONTRÉAL 2013, Barbara Scales, will introduce the services the CMC provides to musicians and composers. Come enjoy a cocktail and a musical performance by cellist Yegor Dyachkov. More info

Spotlight on Canadian Composers #1

  • 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Maison symphonique, 1600 Saint-Urbain
  • An official IAMA showcase, featuring Ensemble Transmission, a virtuoso 6-piece “Pierrot plus” chamber ensemble of Montréal’s finest chamber musicians, performing works by Montreal composers Ana Sokolović and Philippe Leroux.

Canadian New Music Concert #1

  • 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the Red Roof Church, 137 President Kennedy (just across the street from Maison symphonique)
  • Two extraordinary flute virtuosi and an exciting young string quartet perform compelling chamber works that span the work of creative Canadian artists across the generations, across the geography of the country, and across stylistic boundaries. A great introduction to what Canadian composers are doing from coast to coast.
  • Stay for light refreshments after the show, and for an informal meet & greet with artists and IAMA delegates.

Spotlight on Canadian Composers #2

  • 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Maison symphonique, 1600 Saint-Urbain
  • An official IAMA showcase, featuring soprano Janice Jackson, a one-woman powerhouse of vocal technique with an electrifying stage presence, performing works for solo voice by composers Alice Ping Yee Ho (Toronto) and Marie Pelletier (Montreal).

  • 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Red Roof Church, 137 President Kennedy (just across the street from Maison symphonique)
  • From the haunting beauty of delicate solo piano works to the high-energy structured improvisations of a little big band and the precision of a fine-tuned chamber ensemble, this concert focuses on the dramatic contrasts and impressive scope of new music that is being made in Canada in 2013.
